ARDUINO SOFTWARE

Type of Project:

Robotics

Date:

2021

During the pandemic, my friends and I engaged in robotics competitions themed around Star Wars. Each week presented us with distinct challenges, requiring modifications to a base robotic car. Fridays marked our virtual competitions against other participants, where challenges offered various ways to score points, and the team with the highest points at the end emerged as the winner.

The course catered to individuals unfamiliar with robotics classes, prompting us to delve into the basics of coding in Arduino and use TinkerCAD to understand how different components function. After gaining proficiency in coding techniques and acquiring fundamental knowledge of components, we had a two-week window to purchase and assemble our own battle tanks. Collaborating with my team via Zoom posed challenges due to COVID-19 restrictions, and we remained in a constant video call, working tirelessly day and night to ensure our tanks were ready for battle. I provided support to teammates who encountered difficulties getting their cars to function, ensuring everyone was prepared for the competitions.

At the end of the initial two weeks, the first challenge involved shooting towers with the tanks' lasers (LED lights) and knocking them down by driving into them. Despite preparing different runs for this challenge, we discovered that the car would not turn consistently each time. To address this, we independently explored how to connect a cellphone to the car using a Bluetooth device.

Every battle introduced new challenges, and fueled by our team's competitiveness, we independently sought out and learned about different components and strategies to maximize points in battle. In the end, we emerged victorious in the competition, securing a lead of 502 points.
