Mechanism Design Proyect

I had the privilege of collaborating with SISAMEX - SISTEMAS AUTOMOTRICES DE MEXICO S.A. DE C.V. on a project dedicated to refining the ergonomics of a lever mechanism designed to transport a 25 kg pinion from a 90-degree position on a rack to a 0-degree alignment within a CNC lathe. Our objectives were to streamline the handling of the mechanism, thereby minimizing worker exertion, and to uphold the utmost standards of worker safety.

Throughout the duration of this project, I, alongside my teammates, have significantly advanced our critical thinking abilities, improved our proficiency in SolidWorks design, refined our skills in Ansys Analysis, and expanded our knowledge in general manufacturing practices, including the utilization of milling machines, lathes, MIG welding, and additive manufacturing techniques.

Moreover, we have demonstrated enhancements in our collective coordination and optimized our time management strategies through the effective deployment of tools such as project charters and sprints.

One of the challenges we had to face was the center of mass when the mechanism held the pinion. We had to make sure it was in the center and aligned with the force of the crane that made the mechanism go up or down. If it was misaligned, it would force a rotation into the mechanism, leading to a possible accident with the operator.
